In response to a Sphinx re the calculation of Daily Angles: 12-1-1999

The calculations are not difficult but they do require that you have some numbers at hand, those numbers being:

A - The current solar arc MC expressed in sidereal time

B - The current LSTs (Local Sidereal Time) for the solar returns

C - And the sidereal time for the date in question.

Then, the solar arc ST is simply added to the date/ephemeris ST, and from that, the ST of the solar return is subtracted. The answer is the LST for the Daily Angle. That ST is then referred to your Table of Houses for the angles.

Example:

1. Let’s say that a person’s solar arc MC is 10 Leo 07. That translates to a sidereal time of 08:50:16.

2. And let’s say that we wanted the Daily Angles for today, December 1, 1999, when the midnight (ephemeris) sidereal time is 04:37:38.

3. The sum of those two sidereal times is then 13:27:54.

4. From 13:27:54 we want to subtract the solar return LSTs (and I use both the Tropical and the Precession Corrected Returns, calculated to the locale of current residence, so I then have two sets of Daily Angles.)

5. Per our example, the Tropical Solar Return (S/R) has an MC of 09 Aries 33 which yields ST of 00:35:07. So, 13:27:54 - 00:35:07 = 12:52:47. Referring the result to a Table of Houses shows that the Tropical Daily Angle MC then is 14 Libra 16 (and, per the latitude in the example, the ASC would be in 18 Sag.) 6. Also per the example, the Precession Corrected S/R MC of 18 Cap 08 carries a sidereal time of 19:18:18. So 13:27:54 - 19:18:18 = 18:09:36 = a SDA (sidereal Daily Angle) MC of 02 Capricorn 08 and an Ascendant in 04 Aries.

It is also possible to calculate DAILY ANGLE CONSTANTS (which will save you lots of effort!) For the constants: 1. Subtract the S/R LSTs from the solar arc MC expressed in sidereal time. The result is your constant. Ie., per our example, the solar arc ST = 08:50:16. 2. 08:50:16 - (Tropical S/R) 00:35:07 = a Tropical Constant of 08:15:09 3. 08:50:16 - (Precessed S/R) 19:18:18 = a Precessed Constant of 13:31:58 ----- What to do with the CONSTANTS: a) You can then just add the date’s (ephemeris) sidereal time to each of the constants to get the Daily Angles for that date.... b) Or, let’s pretend you want THE DATE when a given degree will be on a Daily Angle MC! In this case, you convert the desired (searched for) degree to its sidereal time and subtract the constant. The result is the sidereal time (epehemeris) for the date when that Daily Angle will have your searched degree as a MC. Let’s do an example of this:

(1) We saw that the Tropical dMC (Daily Angle MC) for today was 14 Libra. Daily Angle MCs will progress “about” a degree per day, but since they are about precision and accuracy, “about” is an unaceptable term here. And since we are going to use Daily Angles on a dial, (for delineation examples, see Architects of Time,) we know that currently Pluto-t is headed to 11 Mutable which has 26 Cardinal in dial opposition. So, we might want to know the date when the Tropical dMC reaches 26 Cardinal/26 Libra.

(2) The ST for 26 Libra is 13:36:25. So, we need to subtract the constant from that. Thus 13:36:25 - the Tropical Constant of 08:15:09 = 05:21:16. The 05:21:16 is the (ephemeris) sidereal time (at Midnight) on the date when the Tropical Daily Angle MC is 26 Libra (with Pluto-t in its axis.) We then grab our ephemeris and look up the 05:21:16 to find that the date is the 10th of December 1999. Neat, huh?

(3) To calculate when factors will occur on the Daily Angle Ascendants, find the degree in question as an Ascendant in your Table of Houses, note the corresponding MC and proceed as in step (b). ------ Then, of course, the Daily Angle axes are drawn on a dial (90 or 45) and transits (with radix and, if desired, directed factors) that occur within a degree of those angle axes are entered....and delineated.

Use of the Time Dials for the times of day when the promise of the axes will manifest is too complex to be discussed here, but again, see “Architects of Time” for instruction and examples. ArchTime also contains a mini-Table of Houses (page 154-155) so you can quickly grab sidereal times for whole degrees (but then you have to convert for the minutes <-- no big deal.) ----- I know this post is ‘way too long, but this question only gets asked about once or twice a year... and Daily Angles are just too wonderful to miss or skim! Aside from their predictive efficacy, they’re a terrific tool for understanding how researched points manifest.

So—thanx for asking the question! (And I pray none of Hades’ “messtakes” found their way into the example math.) –m

Calculation of Daily Angles: 12-2-1999

<< Being the lazy bum that I am, is there any way you can do that with the computer? I thought that if I calculated the chart for my time of birth for a particular day and in my particular location (the time of birth may have to be adjusted if you live in a different time zone than birth, as I am - 8 hours W; slight difference, huh?), I would get the daily angles. Am I mistaken? (please please tell me I’m not!) >>

I think we’ve been down this road before. No, what you are doing is the Diurnal Chart; these are not the same as Daily Angles. As I opine (right word?) “the perception of something as too much work (or not) bears a keen and direct relationship to the results.” :)

<< Tell me if this isn’t possible what tools does one need? A Table of Houses and Ephemeris? >>

The MitreBox does ‘em (but it has been taken off the active market,) so yep, ya’ need a Table of Houses and an ephemeris. (But there are ways to get most computer programs to give you the sidereal time for your SAMC (solar arc MC.)) Colleen has The MitreBox and can run the angles easily...as, of course, do I—but the math really isn’t that difficult. “Modeling” is a great learning strategy, so maybe if you model or copy the calculation example you’ll see that it’s a breeze. Like other precise techniques, Daily Angles rely on very accurate birthtime information.

<< Why did you take Mitre Box off the active market? >>

Owing to the time demands of the BT project over the last two years, I just didn’t have time to do the updating. My understanding is that the current version won’t crash under the Y2K thing, but since so much of the timing options are about dates, one would have to input all four digits of the year. It is a DOS program (and I am not willing to rewrite the whole thing otherwise,) so it is “privately available” where one understands these constraints.

<<Maybe ..start formulas and see if anyone on the list wants to play>>

Great idea! I always love to see all the delineations that are generated from angular orders too—and remember with a smile how deft you and Colleen are with speaking “asteroidese”! I seem to recall that you guys could name the aspect for almost everything I said. It gave my Atlantis an instant Hidalgo! [For those who requested that we explain the “asteroid in-jokes,” Atlantis here relating to sense of personal privacy, and the Hidalgo for circumspect disclosure.] As I said to AstroVal today (regarding an Atlantis matter!) “every once in a very great while, I rue how well some of you have learned all this!” :)

Am hoping to see some discussion on the list re the December Toot’s coverage of the solstice midpoints as time goes on... and on the January issue (going out today—already) because I think the examples are dynamic.

Have also noted that my SO’s eclipse to radix MC with the approaching 16 Aq eclipse in opposition has produced a true “flip-flop” in attitude toward his career. I know some limit the manifestation of eclipses to a brief time period, while people like Charles Emerson (and others) viewed the eclipse degree as volatile for up to two years. At the “flop,” the 16 Leo/Aquarius is again angular via his current Lunar Return. (sorry this post is so Isis.)

Asteroids – A new paradigm?

Part of the new paradigm is that, with asteroids, an astrologer has to shift their expectation of what a given chart will show (but this relates more to delineation than what you were discussing.) I often compare this to the fact that most people have but one word for “snow” where the Eskimos have hundreds. Similarly, asteroids distinguish between the forms such things as “a Neptune transit” can take.

What you suggest (along with the importance of declination) does bring us a step closer to three dimensional chart representation: seeing the chart as a sphere instead of a flat circle! It’s exciting to live in times when astrology is blooming like a lotus. Like us, it is ever in a state of Becoming. No doubt there are parallels as both reach for the reflection of truth.

Current Configurations: 12/8/99

As always, there are a number of possible scenarios and I’m only gonna’ sketch a few of them. And that means that they may or may not be “on” for your life right now—and they may or may not be applicable to some of the folks you know. And, even if they are on your “agenda” now, my way of phrasing them may vary some from the way you word them in your head, but, if they’re up for you, I think you’ll get my reference. The hope is that having the ideas articulated lends validation and a bit of a different way of thinking about the situations (and people involved.)

1. Some medications may be ALMOST doing the job (but “almost” is the salient word here.) There may be discussion of “bad effects” related to medicines; the ability of a medication to intervene in the disease process, and there is the possibility of calling a “time out” to assess how well a medication is actually working.

2. It’d be good to make sure that you have complete information about any medicines or drugs taken now. That thing of feeling that something about an illness ISN’T being fully discussed or disclosed continues (we’ve mentioned this earlier this Fall.) The sense here is that things are “alluded to” without being actually spelled out (and, as you know, that can leave room for mistakes or more negative connotations than are, perhaps, intended.)

3. Medications that some are taking can particularly affect the bowels, the memory, the digestion and the pulse or blood pressure.

4. Although it may not be exactly said, because of an illness, some folks are expecting others to be TOTALLY accepting of whatever (the patient OR the doctor) do—and if a person doesn’t feel this support, they can feel VERY alone (and remember almost every other time in their life when they didn’t feel taken care of.)

5. There will be times when someone says something—or starts to—but they don’t finish—and part of this is a test to see how much others know; it can be a test to see if the other is competent, or if they’re aware of the past or of some chronic or deteriorating possibility.

6. Dream themes now can include: a child, a surgery potential, elements of feeling dependent, or some concern about being attacked or facing prejudice.

7. It’s holiday season, and the gods have a perverse sense of humor so there’s lot of “undercurrents” in family dynamics! Some families are facing very changed roles and depressing situations; others are trying to “keep up appearances;” and still others are continuing to deal with situations that absolutely push them (as individuals and as a group) to the wall.

8. While ordinarily the advocacy is to “trust your feeling” (that inner, gut, heart sense of things,) for some people now, situations are so “loaded” (with life ultimatums, the family history and a still-evolving transformative process) that they are too apt to interpret things as negative. In part, some of the “transformation process” is to understand the role of shame (as a motivator) and to release both “the dreads” and the subscription to what we might call “a mysterious but powerful self-negation.” In the attempt to understand, some people may have dreams in which the situation is “ancient” (and yet familiar—the denigration of a people as part of a reach for power by oppressors.) You won’t have to be asleep to see evidence of this!

9. Due to the conjunction of Venus and Panacea, some will propose the old “Throw money at it; that’ll fix it” (and in some cases, it will!!!) Panacea (in astrology) presents the idea of “cures,” and of the process we go through to make things better. (And the process we believe—via our conditioning and experience—we have to go through to fix whatever we see as broken at the moment.) With Venus conjunct, improvements can have to do with beauty—ie., if it’s prettier, it’s better! <grin> Venus can be diplomatic and willing to compromise and please... so some’ll go that route to ease a situation. (However, Venus has just entered the sign, Scorpio, so there may be more to the “nice” than meets the eye!!! Such a Venus has to love and accept only with integrity and with the authenticity of its very bottom (gut) line!) I like seeing Venus here simply as LOVE—and given, experienced or remembered cleanly—that CAN solve ‘bout anything!!! (And that’s the Pollyanna report for the week!)
