Medical, Digestive : Thu, 18 May 2000
In a message dated 05/18/2000 1:29:35 AM Eastern Daylight Time, XYZ writes: << Hello, I've read some of the posts to your board; could you please tell me how medical asteroids are different from decumbiture? I'm most interested in digestive disorders. Sincerely, >>
With decumbiture, the chart is cast for the moment one "takes to the bed" with an illness so that the diagnosis and assessment wait until that time. By using the medical asteroids (in combination with traditional chart factors, TNPs and other asteroids,) the areas of physical challenge can be recognized long before the manifestation.
Where your interest is specifically in digestive disorders, as well as looking to such configurations as Moon\Hades and stresses with Pluto, examine the condition of Ceres and Demeter because they represent "food." With Neptune, for instance, there can be allergies, bloating, hyper-sensitivity to foods; with Bacchus, the conversion of food sugars to alcohol can be problematic; with Jupiter, the assimilation can be faulty, and the liver's efforts incomplete; Psyche with Ceres and Demeter can, among other things, show a neurological effect from the diet; when Hades is involved, not only can "waste" be a site of difficulty, but special sensitivity to toxins, microbes and germs are a factor; with Admetus, not only can food linger overly long in the digestive track, but there may be problems with the walls of the bowels; with Venus in aspect, the effect of sugars and a sweet-tooth is operative (as is the need for love!) Any number of other planets, TNPs and asteroids in aspect to Ceres and Demeter will make their comment (and their effect) evident in the digestion.
In evaluating the condition of Ceres and Demeter in the chart, it's useful to ponder the symbolism that says "Food is your Mommy." (Many of us wish this wasn't so!) As well as helping to describe the interaction with the mother (or other caregivers,) both of these asteroids show the challenges we face in truly "taking care of ourselves." In many ways, our efforts to nurture ourselves echo the model of important segments of the parent-child relationship.
My work in mapping the brain to the chart demonstrated that a chart is entirely detailed regarding its description. In that work, the Psyche axis described functions and structures of the brain and the failures of cell types (once I read enough neuroscience and anatomy to recognize the parallels) to as astounding degree. I assume the same would be true of other parts of the body--once the correct indicator were established. In other words, look to the chart to be accurate regarding the condition down to very fine detail. I would, of course, enter the chart on a dial to begin the research. Request data for similar conditions. Test the axis of Ceres, Demeter, Pluto. Read a great deal about the anatomy involved in that broad term, digestion.
Work too with midpoints among Ceres, Demeter, Hades and Pluto with the medical asteroids. Even if you are not interested in the research side, likely you'll find important insights. For onset (instead of chronic conditions,) directions and returns will be effective.
On Return Charts : 05/12/2000
I DO use both the Tropical and Precession Corrected (sometimes called the Sidereal) returns--and those calculated to the current locale. And there are a number of examples of why I do this (with the charts illustrated) in "Architects of Time <Page_17_.htm>." But, as I intone (relentlessly) each of us must search for those techniques that suit our interpretation of "reality" and events. Each of us must work sufficiently with a technique to learn how it shows what's happening. It is for that reason (in Architects of Time <Page_17_.htm>) that I painstakingly illustrated eight different methods of progressing solar return angles. So often you hear that "this" is THE WAY (and the light and the truth. Amen.) and yet, when you compare the methods for a single event, you see that each of them addresses certain specifics or portions of the event. One then chooses the method that covers the most salient (to their observation) parts of a given event. "Events" are complex items and it can take a number of factors to even characterize them. And there are things (like the Sabian symbols for the angles) that I have liked about using the birth locale for solar returns, but for timing and events, I prefer the relocated. As with most things in our discipline, one needs to apply the technique to a great many charts to come to that place where one utterly (can and does) "trust the chart"--trust that what it is telling you will occur. Thanx for the good thoughts. m
Hephaistos & Deformities : 05/03/2000
<<Question: what would you think would show in a chart re: 'paralysis'?? , I would think Heph/Hades could be leg 'deformities'... >>
Deformities and chronic or long term problems are usually shown by Hades pictures (although just "long term illness" can be a Saturn-Neptune thing, as the Saturn drags out the time of immune challenge.) Hades can manifest as "negation" (of aspecting energies)--thus the Witte combination (see the Witte text, "Rules for Planetary Pictures <Page_22_.htm>,) would be Hades/Zeus = MC. I'd think a Hades/Zeus = Sun might express a similar thing.
I don't think I've ever done a chart where paralysis existed, so my thought about it is only that. For those who don't use the TNPs, Rex Bills' Rulership book lists: Saturn, Capricorn and possibly Uranus for paralysis.
It'd be good if we had a number of chart examples to see how Hades might affect Hephaistos and/or Terpsichore. Likely the cause of the paralysiswill also be configured with them; the chart would distinguish between paralysis that results from an accident and that caused by illness (where Neptune or one of the medical asteroids could be expected.)
Anyone have example charts they are free to share? m
Dear New Subscribers : May 1, 2000
(The following was posted on the A-Urania email list for the new (and old) members and is re-printed here to show the importance of ALL members posting or contributing something once in a while in order to keep the list healthy and active.) Welcome to the A-Urania email list!
Although we share ideas about lots of kinds of astrology, the accent here is on Asteroids...liberally salted with TNPs and techniques including dials, solar arc, midpoints, return charts, diurnals and many other methods.
In the archives (and on the www.treehousemountain.com website,) you'll find study plan posts, informational posts and lots else to add to your understanding of asteroids in delineation.
To get the most from the list, have at least the asteroids covered in my books for your chart--and for a few other charts. These are standard in solar fire, available thru Mark Pottenger's Ccasteph, and available online (see the link on the website.) Some list members are studying other asteroids--and all would be fascinated to hear about your special interests.
If you don't want to ask questions directly on the list (maybe you have "an Atlantis thing,") you can email questions about delineations or techniques to me or to AstroVal---or to other members whose posts intrigue you. Mostly your question will be addressed on the list--and without mentioning your name. As you know, the only "dumb question" is the one that isn't asked. While we each tend to think we're unique, when you have a question, you can bet that at least seven other people on the list are wondering the same thing. So if you're hesitant to ask for yourself, be a hero and ask for others.
You won't learn the material here without studying charts, but the list can make a super learning aid... and you have lots of astrologers (and good-hearted human beings) here as a resource. My point of view is mine--but it can be a foundation (or counterpoint) on or from which you can build your own sense of the points we discuss.
When people contribute their time and expertise, it's common (and courteous) practice on this list to thank them... and your participation is one of the ways you can do that. When YOU (and I do mean YOU) don't participate, the energy on the list suffers.
We try to have a relaxed, chat-like exchange here from time to time... mixed in with good, practical astrology. We look forward to meeting you. martha wescott
