Psyche: 24 Nov 1999

Psyche relates to neurology (as well as its more psychological side;) it is the brain and the head.

When Siva or Siwa occur with a medical asteroid, one of the things that means is that a medical condition is one that occurs in or is measured as “episodes” or cycles (rather like Vulcanus-those huge shifts in the energy level. Siva would withdraw to a mountain cave and “keep a low profile” for a time while he stored up “power;” then he’d rush down in a flurry-frenzy and “destroy.” This is the basis for the delineation about the cycles.) It can suggest too that the level of one’s health is affected by the seasons. It can also indicate contact with Eastern medicine, doctors, or health practices. (Add Ceres or Demeter and you get “Chinese herbs”!) The potential for the health to be affected by “rage” is there too, as is the idea that health problems force one to release some rigid attitudes and expectations and “go at” aspected/aspecting factors in an utterly new way. And while Zeus sure is blood pressure, Eros also relates to the cardiac system (and might be useful in looking at the problem-whether you have Eros-Santa-the hots for Santa-or not!) :)

Coming attractions: 21 Nov 1999

Currently Sphinx is at the last eclipse point, 18 Leo! But I was using a set of angles that included Sphinx (based on a lunar return in the 40 latitude area-so that the post included points that would have been angular at an ascendant there.) Sphinx “asks questions” of the angles, at the angles, and concerning other angulars. It doesn’t have “all the answers” or enough information... or the information it does have is cryptic or enigmatic so there’s still the sense of “not knowing.” Of course, we all have a radix Sphinx, and there too, relative to its aspect pattern, there’s “not enough data” so we are left with “not knowing or understanding” (how and why parts of the aspects manifest in our lives the way they do.) Take for example, Sphinx with Neptune. A person might “not know” because someone else was deceptive, because there was a tendency to “glamorize” or “pretend” or because there was a hidden condition (etc. Neptune.) Think also of Sphinx-Admetus. The Sphinx may want to know... and Admetus says, “not yet, the knowing depends on someone else or other things to occur.” Asteroid delineation is often quite literal (which helps make it easy to learn)!

Solstice: AR/UR = Atlantis, Rx : 21 Nov 1999

Among the issues covered by that picture is the growing concern about protection of privacy in connection with computer use. It seems that many internet companies place a “cookie” on your hard drive when you visit their site; this enable them to track which sites you visit (and they can track keystroke by keystroke!) While they justify this as a consumer service, there is widespread concern. The Wall Street Journal had another article on it this week. Nemesis (origin of problems, “undoing”) is also in the Aries axis with Atlantis and Uranus.

Mars oppo. Pluto, Rx/Hekate, Rx :19 Nov 1999

(From a discussion on the AOL board)

...boy, when ya’ think of that, what a &^%$# configuration! I think some of the sleeplessness has to do with the Mars/Pluto, Rx inability to control....(self, circumstances, others) and, as you say, the anger! Some of that sounds like “shadow-boxing”-anger at “an enemy” (person or situation) that’s either overwhelming or too psychologically complex. It’s as though the anger isn’t effective because a lot of the Pluto isn’t straightforward, accessible-nor is it subject to change.

I’d also think that the retrograde nature of Hekate would relate to the mother or other “protectors” who just didn’t do their job. It’s like there would be fears that would arise “in the dark”-and with both Hekate and Pluto retrograde, they’d be all the stronger-and all the harder to “reach” emotionally. The person may have childhood incidents that took place at night and/or that deal with “not feeling protected, guarded” when he or she REALLY needed someone to be there for them.

Hekate can use “the night or evening” to deal with, enact or react to its aspect pattern-one way or another! Some of us revel in being “night owls”... and not always for the first reasons that come to mind! The attitude toward “the dark” bears careful thought as “the dark” is a metaphor full of mystery (and magic.)

A Sphinx about Atlantis-Hekate: 19 Nov 1999

Points with Hekate show up in dreams (not that they don’t show up in other ways too.) Since Atlantis suggests “imminent doom & destruction,” themes in dreams can play up that idea (from the subconscious? from a past life?) Hekate too is “the protector”-and that kind of an aspect may mean that when “disaster” threatens, the person feels that they are supposed to be Guardians. And you know that Hekate relates to a level of “inner wisdom”-of “intuitive KNOWING.” Add Atlantis and they “may not know how they know,” may have “a sense” that something bad is about to happen. Atlantis is “the insider;” the one with “special knowledge”-and again, Hekate is “the wise woman.” It was she who stood at the portals of life to help others make the transition (whether for birth or death.) It’s not hard to imagine that together they create a kind of mission or belief in obligation. Atlantis is also about “ethics” and respect for privacy (one’s own and that of others.) It’s having information that others don’t know about. Some of the “obligation” of that, some fears of being “found out” or “being punished for knowing” might also be worked out in the dream state (and relate to the mother archetype.)In hard aspect they could also produce instances of dreams of water, a sense of dread of the dark or night hours, or times of being punished for relying on one’s intuition. In the Solstice chart, Atlantis is in the Aries axis (and we’ve discussed how that might aid and abet those who predict “doom” in connection with the Y2K problem. In that chart, there’s also a Kassandra\Hekate = Orpheus Currently a person could have Atlantis, Rx - Vulcanus angular!

Coming Attractions: Mid-late Nov 1999 Among the possible scenarios prompted by astrological configurations:

1. Important and poignant QUESTIONS-situations made more dramatic by either paradoxical or missing information. Part of the challenge here is how one “operates or copes when they don’t know the answer(s).” There will be all sorts of questions for those for whom this symbolism is relevant; among them: what does this visual symptom mean? Has there been a change? Dare I hope?

What’s going on with my friend? Why do I feel this way? What were you so (emotionally) “hurt” about? Why is there such neurological tension (as though something were quivering or shaking in your brain)? The existence of incomplete information will, for some people, affect their confidence in making plans or handling their work; it may create greater uncertainty about the future. Others will have the questions about others with whom they have relationships (and the questions may focus on the relationship itself or the behavior of others.) Still other folks may find the questioning and uncertainty affecting their family life or residence-and reflect unanswered issues of the past.

2. There will be circumstances around whether one should follow medical advice, and about whether medical personnel truly “hear” what the patient is attempting to convey. There may be symptoms that involve the hearing (Temporal lobe) and instances of having “mis-heard” information in the past. It’d be good to check and recheck what is said or written. How does that saying go: “I know you think you know what you think I said, but did you hear what I mean?” <-- somethin’ like that!

3. Some attention should be given especially to “the last thing” that was said/heard-and to discussion of any kind of ending, completion or resolution. Of course this means you’ll encounter folks who need to have “the last word,” but expect some questions because the final impression is that there is some change (in what had earlier or previously been suggested.)

4. As well as the focus on “words” (and that kind of listening,) there may be symptoms of “tininitus” (did I spell that correctly?) The idea here being picking up auditory noise-sounds without words. Now this also suggests the importance of “the sound of someone’s voice”-and we all know that MUCH is connoted and imparted based on phrasing and tone of voice, so that too can complicate exactly what one “understands” or hears.... and it can be the reason that a person is left with questioning what someone really meant.

5. There’ll be lots of concern about “the end of an illness,” but “endings” of all sorts will be an issue (for those for whom this scenario is “on” now.) Some endings will occur as a result of rage-especially an anger that has turned cold so that one affects an indifference (ie., I really don’t care anymore-so there!)

6. Some endings are “talked out” (not that the parties really hear each other.... and some of the problem is that they didn’t “listen” in the past... and that’s why their interaction is coming to a close now.)

7. Too, people can feel as though another WAS indifferent, as though the interaction “lacked passion or feeling” and had become a duty rather than a privilege.

8. This scenario also includes medical matters or symptoms that affect: the teeth, bones, joints, and those annoying limitations that are attributed to “the ravages of age.”

9. The business of “not really tuning in and hearing what is important (and sometimes hurtful) to a person” can give rise to thoughts of “second chances” or be a bigger deal because (1) it’s gone on for a long time, or (2) one has seemed “too busy” to really listen to the other, or (3) it reminds a person of similar situations with their father! There are many other astrological “scenarios” now (...in the Naked City!) but if this one is on your agenda over the next few weeks, maybe these notes will help you to think of the circumstances a little differently!

Current configurations include:Orpheus et al\Hades, etc :8 Nov 1999

1. Hebe-Kronos: While this is a perfect description of an airline steward or stewardess, it applies to anyone who “assists or serves” a leader or executive. It’s Monica Lewinsky, the executive secretary, and untoward acceptance of “the law,” the rules or those in higher position. BUT, Hebe is retrograde... so, among the problems: either there’s a problem originating with the assistant, or folks aren’t willing to “follow the protocol.” With a Hebe-Kronos, an underling can take on the leadership role, or allow the leader/boss so much leeway that problems manifest. As usual under the retrogrades, all that’s true isn’t clear right now, and some difficulties are rooted in pre-existing conditions.

2. Orpheus-Aesculapia-Hidalgo-Tantalus-Juno and Pandora are all in a line. Some thoughts on the various possibilities:

(a) Depression results from medical status; there is concern about a medical condition being terminal; the current state of “well-being” has one thinking back to better days and remembering “the way we were.” There is also recognition that, due to a medical condition, things have changed-and thus, people and situations aren’t going to “go back to normal.” Pandora adds an important grace note of hope.

(b) With Aesculapia and Juno, aside from concern about costs associated with doctor bills and medical care, the accent is on the health of partners/others, and on the way one person’s health affects the relationship dyanamic. This conjunction is also a time to remember the importance of “patient’s rights.”

(c) The Aesculapia-Hidalgo can refer to less than full disclosure or discussion of a diagnosis and prognosis. Add the Tantalus and the sense is that “the whole story isn’t being told-in part to see just how much another person knows or realizes.” At Tantalus, one needs to take responsibility for “who is told or gets what”-so some of the (Hidalgo) careful words may relate to that. Tantalus is also about appreciation, and there’s nothing like illness to bring about a renewal of that! Seeing Tantalus as “teasing” makes

it easy to understand how “not saying all that one knows” thru Hidalgo makes “the truth” or the facts “almost” (another good Tantalus word) plain.

(d) Of course when we see Tantalus with a medical point, we think of health issues that give rise to insatiable thirst/appetite (\Hades...but there is nausea or bowel problems.)

(e) The Hidalgo-Orpheus. Oh yeah, fer sure, it’s songs like “Lady of Spain” or “Spanish Eyes” (IF you have Iris or Astraea in the mix,) and it’s music without words, but it’s also about not wanting to speak of a death or sorrow. (So: add Tantalus and Aesculapia: Is “just enough said” so a person has the sense that a medical condition might be life threatening?)

(f) There is that serious side of Tantalus, that part of “sacrificing something really important JUST TO SEE if another KNOWS” (= Orpheus: about a death, about the reason for depression/tears, or about the threat to life; = Hades: about a mistake, about the origin of a problem; = Kronos: about the airplane, about the leader, --and testing whether the expert is competent and

really knows his or her stuff; = Pandora: about a surprise)-- and so on.

(g) When you see a Hidalgo-Pandora, someone isn’t talkin’ so there will be a surprise. This is great when (Tantalus) a few allusions are thrown out there to see if folks know what’s going on, but mostly someone’s keeping quiet so the “jack in the box” can happen. It’s just that we’d rather see Venus or Jupiter in the mix for a “happy surprise.” With the parans opposition to Hades, the “whoops” of Pandora is more apt to create a crisis or difficulties because a mistake is made and the outcome is unfortunate. A Hades\Hidalgo

is: not talking until the investigation is complete, not saying too much cuz a person doesn’t want to appear stupid or be wrong, prefering to say only just so much about the past, and seeing that when a person is left to “fill in the blanks” (of another’s omissions,) mistakes easily occur.

(h) Under a Juno-Pandora, there is concern about accounting or financial surprises; there is dealing with the crises others are having; there is the potential of seeing violations to human rights or relationship equities because of a crisis situation, and there is the perhaps smaller matter of being caught off-guard by a partner.

------- as usual, there’s more to be milked from this incredible stellium, but maybe this gives you a baseline you can embellish. And, as always, the manifestations will be more evident if the stellium is angular on current returns.
