Some cursory notes on other current possibilities: 10-1-1999

1. Zeus x Panacea: The solution requires restraint (of strong emotions,) planning (so ya’ have your ducks in a row...and quacking at the appropriate moment!) There can be instances where the solution is to get others “fired up.” Zeus is forever teaching us about developing FOCUS (and thus the ability to see things through,) so that’s also part of effecting improvements now. “Fixes” may require machines (or need to be done ON machines,) and, no, the solution is not a gun, a missile, or a handy midnight arson! (Besides, without Hekate or Neptune, the midnight run isn’t on your agenda!)

2. With the Hybris x Panacea, it’d be good to think on what you expect from a “solution”—so you know if you or others accomplish it! Note here too the possibility that one of the things in need of repair is the “hubris” of another. This is a conjunction that murmurs about “limited cures”—ie., there’s only “so much” that can be improved, fixed or cured. (And don’t limit the Panacea to the medical arena, although, with Hygiea nearby, it will apply to that and to fitness applications.)

3. One of the chart sessions I did this past week held the current Requiem x Kronos (angular at her MC.) I suggested that there might be contact with a “grief counselor” or with a person of authority who was “secure in their knowledge and position—a person who was a VIP in their field, and who held a definite aura of serenity, as though there was ‘no need to struggle’.” The client strongly confirmed this (and other angulars addressed what this person would mean to her year.)

4. Mercury x Sappho: (If we had Jupiter in the mix, it’d be the classic GMTA—great minds think alike!) Even without it, there’s lots of shared ideas, conversations with friends, and folks seeking others who “speak their language.” Since Mercury is siblings, cars, and neighbors, the presence of Sappho adds the idea of “links, bonds, and common ground.” Go driving with a friend—to the post office! :) I have seen Sappho (linked Venuses glyph) manifest as shops, so this combination can impel toward “mail order” and other ways that you’d incorporate the Mercury.

5. From Siva x Sappho, you can be aware of what destroys a sense of commonality; you can find that “closeness” with others follows a cycle where there is distance or lack of involvement for a time—then there’s intense connection and sharing (especially via the Mercury.)

6. The Mercury x Siva could allow you to hear glimpses of Chinese (or some such language—even those with Sino roots,) and you might get to see “words of rage”—even, since it’s in Libra, couched in seemingly nice terms. Remember that Siva “holds back” and then “rushes forth”—and the period of “holding back” allows a power and potency to fully develop—as will be evident when the words finally emerge. What I love about a combination like this is thinking about Mercury as vocalization or written expression and Siva as the understanding of phrasing and the uses of silence. Where Mercury can be the voice and the words, Siva is more about the “sound” of the voice and the connotations of devices such as alliteration.

7. Mercury x Daedalus is “the crafter of words, the clever mind, the architect of ideas, artful words, the design of a thought.” It is also “playing verbal dodge ball”! And it’s about things like: jealousy of ideas, and learning to accept the consequences of one’s words and thoughts. Where appropriate, it might be “discussions with an architect or about a design.” With additional points (such as Poseidon, Uranus and probably a few others,) this conjunction could well be “designing the appearance of words or ideas” (= Uranus: for a computer presentation, or some such thing.)

Urania-Hidalgo-Hades : 10-13-1999

I observe that Urania-t is now in 17 Sag with Hidalgo in 16 Sag. And, if we use Urania as astrology (and, in a way, as our A-Urania list,) we have to think that Hidalgo is lending its measure of circumspection and reluctance to speak.

Some of that may be coming from the octile to Neptune (thus, some prefer to stay in a shadowland, others are juggling some frailty or personal chaos, while others are absorbed in more compelling pursuits or distractions.)

But we have Urania in a T-square all its own; the Urania-Hidalgo stands in opposition to Hades with both ends square Ophelia in Virgo. The Hades might give substance to the idea that some silence is a fear of making a mistake or being, in some way, “substandard,” and certainly Hades itself can be secretive. But if we see Ophelia as suggesting that there are “over-reactions,” then there is something in the past (recent? longer ago?) that has caused people to react in counterproductive ways so that they are cautious about what they say (regarding astrology.)

With a Hidalgo\Hades, folks can “speak cautiously behind someone’s back,” or prefer to not say anything if they can’t say something good, and find that a situation slides down the slippery slope because matters aren’t fully discussed or verbalized.

Hades can be malicious or demeaning; Ophelia can feel “misled.” How is this connected to “astrology” for members of our group? (Or is the configuration murmuring that some felt it was okay to “not say much and remain in the background”?) It may also be that some are using the Hades to do research. Others may be experiencing the Neptune\Ophelia as a heightened disillusionment.

Of course, one could elicit many other interpretations from the configuration, but I found it interesting that it occurs at a time when things on the list are soooo quiet. (Perhaps, with Eros in 19 Virgo, folks have been preoccupied with other passions; their heart, as so to speak, hasn’t been in astrology!) ;-)

The News Group A-Urania’s Birth Time

I’ll have to scratch around and see if I can find the A-Urania chart..... (A-Urania is a Newsgroup’s Birth Chart)

Here it Is:

<< A-Urania birth. Start delivery: March 26, 1999 at 8.46 am EST, tz=5, 75w02, 39n56 Cherry Hill NJ, MC=12Aq54, Asc=5Ge58, Physical Birth: March 26, 1999 at 8.58 am EST, tz=5, 75w02, 39n56 Cherry Hill NJ, MC=15Aq35, Asc=9Ge20 >>

Thanx, Drifter. Of note, the current (October 6th) lunar return for the list features an MC of 20 Sag and a 12 Pisces ASC. Mars was conjunct that MC... and among the angulars at the IC are Hades and Kronos. And the Urania-Hidalgo was also angular. We may see further developments as the transiting Moon passes the angles: October 13-14th, October 20-21st, and October 27th-28th.

I used the first chart; arguments could well be made to favor the second. m

Urania-Hidalgo-Hades: 10-15-1999

Thanx so much for the example. You might want to watch the asteroid, Child, radix and transit, too. And because you mention the idea of a “change of residence,” tracking the TNP, Cupido, currently in 01 Sag, might be useful.

One of the things I love about asteroids is that, while some of your situation would have been covered in the Saturn sq Neptune, the asteroids added slightly different lingo—and those were more precisely descriptive of the circumstance and behavior. This becomes extremely important in doing predictive work, and in creating a space for more complete understanding of the operative dynamics.

Your example is also a great reminder of how comprehensive a pattern or aspect can be in manifestation. If you attribute it to the eclipse to the Saturn-Neptune, you would see: the “weakness to the spine” and “the father resorts to subtrefuge”—and your concern that the father would be “weak on discipline.” His claim to “not have understood the rules” (re visitation) would also fit nicely under that banner.

But to get back to the predictive thing. What is needed are systems (and factors) that would allow an accurate advance look at the scenario. How did/would you see (astrologically) the situation as it evolved? As you know, one of my favorites are Tropical and Sidereal Lunar Returns, taking “angular” points, natal and transit. It’d be interesting to know if you had the Ophelia...Hidalgo, etc “angular” for the situation.

Again, thanx. I was about to give up on posting the “current configurations.” I don’t want to clutter people’s email boxes with unwanted info, and considered asking those who want to receive them to email me. I usually receive a couple emails on each one—so, should I continue those kinds of posts?

November issue of “Toot”/BT project

A number of you are subscribers to Tools of the Trade, and the November issue was/is on the BT research project, and, uh, it’s a little dry. I will make it up to you next month <grin>.... but I hope you have a chance to review those results shown—and that you find them interesting, and that there are things you can use in your own practice.

I know I was surprised, as I mentioned, that, in the year of diagnosis, the incidence of eclipses to radix or directed angles or luminaries wasn’t higher.* With my last update to the BT study participants, I did ask for comments on “what their brain tumor MEANT to them;” and that is reflecting what you could see even in some of the result pages I included in Toot. It meant so many different things to people....

For those who are not subscribers, in the year of diagnosis, 75% of those in the study had an eclipse to their radix Psyches. If you include the directed positions of Psyche, in the year of dx, 86% would have had an elipse to Psyche. The next highest occurrence percentage was to a medical asteroid. (Yep! That’s right, not to an angle, not to Neptune, Saturn, Pluto, or Hades—but there was some accent on both Vulcanus and Kronos; Vulcanus for the idea of being under pressure and facing “have-to’s” and Kronos for contact with experts and dealing with the “protocols” of treatment plans.)

Tate discussion+ :10-21-1999

Dear xxxxx and xxxxx:

I am terribly busy this week, but I just HAD to quickly note my appreciation to both of you for your very thorough and thought-provoking discussion. I am standing and cheering wildly! Astrology at work! Thank you both!

(Among my “being busy” things this week are two sessions where clients want to have their charts done AS a lesson on the dial... with asteroids. One has been studying astrology for 20+ years, and had never seen or heard of a dial until she bought my books—can you imagine? We must do a better job of getting the word & the teaching out!!! As I always say, dials with asteroids are magic. Anyway, the first lady was, in her words, “blown away. You are utterly ON target with everything,” she said to me. At another point, “How could you possibly know that?” (And so I showed her the planetary picture....<grin>-- those of you who do this know how clear it can be!)

The combination of dials, TNPs and asteroids mean that you can “point and shoot” (in computer lingo.) Point to a factor and shoot with delineations from the axis to midpoints to pictures with the personal points.

Now I know (because you email me and tell me) that some of you are even more awed than I am over their examples from the Tate chart. You may have read the formulas and had no real idea of how they’re done (mathematically—or, without math on the dial.)

Or how to work out the interpretation of them.

This is your chance to ask; I’m sure someone will find the time to explain it—and then, next time, you’ll be able to play too! And if you’re too shy to ask on the list, email Paola or Denise or me or someone else and pose your Sphinx. And don’t be hesitant, you can be sure that there are others who have pretty much the same question you do! This is really thrilling stuff (and xxxx is fairly new to asteroids and you can readily see her mastery already—I don’t know how long xxxxx has been working with them, but truly, you learn it faster than you think you will.)

Anyway—my schedule is busy but reading your interaction is so exciting. Thanx to you both for the work you’ve put into it—for the skills you bring to bear... and share.

Jupiter in death charts

I too observe, xxxxx, that Jupiter is often prominent in death charts; I read that as the death being “fortunate”—as a relief or blessing of sorts... especially given other circumstances.

Oh, and in case there are some on the list who think the Hopi, Toro, Atropos in the Tate chart is a fluke, Nicole Brown Simpson had an Atropos-Toro conjunction in opposition to Hopi (and square Hekate—the dark hours.) Her Orpheus opposed Lilith (jealousy, triangulation)-- in fact, there’s a picture: Orpheus/Apollon = Lilith (where Apollon would indicate “more than one” as usual.) Too, Orpheus squares Kassandra... and Orpheus trines Sphinx, Rx!

Jon Benet Ramsey chart - GASP!!!

XXX—you did such a super job, there’s nothing left to say... uh, “gasp” says it all! (Especially given the Arachne....)

As I mentioned, a glance at the father’s chart will leave you equally shocked, but I’ve never looked at the mother’s chart. There must be an incredible Sphinx tie in these charts, but a retrograde Panacea can also leave things “unsolved.”

While I’ve often concentrated on serial killers (how tired are you, Sing, of Gary Gilmore???) the Ramsey case so made my blood run cold that I couldn’t bear to look at the charts. Someone had emailed me configurations from the father’s chart at the time—without telling me whose chart it was—and in answering, I had inquired, “Is this from the chart of the father of that little girl who was murdered?” euuuuuuw. Another person emailed the child’s autopsy report.... I just couldn’t bear it! But I’m glad that astrologers are looking into it; I have to think that those efforts also go into the cosmic soup to help bring about some kind of justice and resolution.

...have to wonder how it is that these horrific crimes bring out such excellent work on the list <grin>-- is that also part of our Urania-Pluto? Maybe we should focus on that chart to see where our talents lay! :)

Eros-Psyche (literally)

Doctors in the United States may soon be using tissue from testicles to treat brain diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s. The idea is to transplant cells of an animal testis directly into the brains of patients.

The latest research was one of the more surprising topics of discussion at the annual meeting of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) in Anaheim, California.

Paul Sanberg: The testicles and the brain have much in common. (Editorial comment: ...AND ARE INDISTINGUISHABLE IN SOME MEMBERS OF THE SPECIES. mlw) Testicle to brain transplants may sound like an improbable concept but the latest experiments on laboratory rats suggest they may offer a new way to treat several serious brain conditions.

Rats with a form of Parkinson’s disease have shown considerable improvement in their symptoms after surgical implants of a certain kind of testicle cell in their heads. These cells are called sertoli cells.

Their normal role is to nourish developing sperm. According to Dr Paul Sanberg of the University of South Florida, this involves the secretion of chemicals called growth factors, which are very similar to those made in the brain.

“It’s quite interesting that in fact the brain and testes have some relationship as far as the chemicals that are in there, and yes, it’s funny but it’s true in a number of ways,” he said.

- Cell repair -

Some of these testicular chemicals encourage diseased or damaged brain cells to repair and reconnect with each other.

Dr Sanberg: Clinical trials are two years away<In human patients, Dr Sanberg is hoping to use testicular cells from pigs or rats - first of all in an attempt to treat Parkinson’s disease. But Huntingdon’s disease and Alzheimer’s disease are other possible targets.

And although foreign to the human body, the cells have a way of protecting themselves from rejection once they have been transplanted.

“The other thing that they do is provide an immunological barrier. They secrete a substance called FAS-L which induces lymphocytes - which are the white blood cells that attack the body - to die. They induce what we call apoptosis in them, so that these lymphocytes won’t attack the testes.”

He believes his first clinical trials are at least two years away. However, at a press conference in Anaheim, Paul Sanberg revealed that another team based in San Francisco had recently started using another form of testicular tissue to treat the victims of strokes.

“They’re in the clinic in phase one, looking at stroke patients to re-grow connections that are lost in stroke patients. And they have done nine patients as of this month,” he said.

Current Configurations :10-24-1999

These will be “angular” (and thus important/manifesting) in SOME people’s lives and experiences in various ways over the next few weeks:

1. Pythia x Hades\Urania: Research results can be misinterpreted in ways that skew the overall theory; there may be ignorance about past insights; some ideas will prove correct even though they are not correctly derived.

2. Hades\Urania: While this can show as “lowest common denominator astrology” or astrology for the masses, it is also astrological research and an accent on ancient methods (so read Ptolemy or Lilley!) This is “detailed astrology,” astrological research, and attempts to link theory with detail. But it can produce poor results, disgust with astrology, and theories that relate to the ancient past. Psychological theory can also occur under it, as can contact with those of limited intellectual experience. On some days, it’s just that “there’s mistaken thinking.” Hades can also invite one to pay attention to “sequence” and to parts, and one might see this with astrological study. Astrology can also be used to delve into the past, and one can find “hatred” for astrology or greatly mistaken beliefs about it. Urania is “apperception,” the mental capacity to put things in context and to draw on past experience. Under this aspect, that ability will be challenged—and a person may need help to make decisions or to put various parts together.

3. Hades x Hephaistos: In the most mundane application, this is “old metal,” buried metal, wrought iron—and perhaps things associated with these ideas, like, for instance, an anvil or an old shovel. Hades can show as “a workman”—with Hephaistos, it’s a blacksmith or another kind of metal worker or fabricator. But it is also likely to manifest as: deterioration of the use of a lower limb or a decline connected to limping (or the dragging of a foot,) some embarassment over a “disability,” or realization that the “unlikely relationships” in one’s life include those of a Hadian character: those who are depressed, having chronic problems, or of a lower social class. Even minor “clumsiness” and instances of “dropsy” can occur.

4. Hekate x Terpsichore: As well as doing physical things in the evening (and “Dancing in the Dark” would be perfect!) the idea of physical protection and guidance is found in the combination. Among the images that occur is “the guiding hand,” and some touch that occurs in connection with birth or death. The conjunction addresses the idea of “the wisdom of the body” and whether one can trust that—whether one listens to what their body is telling them. (With Mnemosyne conjunct Terpsichore, and both retrograde, some are having parietal lobe problems; it’s a question of not “remembering” the body’s parameters—so “trusting” the body’s sense is problematic; the brain is not placing the physical correctly in time and space. Various natal angular factors can produce odd moments of physical disconnection. There are things that “the body remembers how to do” (ie., ride a bike, etc.,) that may be odd during this conjunction. As a transit, watch for moments where the sense of touch keys things from the past—and for when it doesn’t—and it should!

5. While a Ceres x Hopi always brings out the popcorn, nachos and other corn-based foods, it links the idea of Food or Nurturance and “Attacks.” While this places an accent on “kitchen knives,” it reminds that the relationship between some mothers and children is marred by emotional ambush situations. Ceres-Hopi refers to “the nurturing style of minorities;” it address “lands where grains are grown;” it can bring news stories that feature the use of a knife or other cutting instrument within a mother-child relationship...and “prejudice themes” can occur within that relationship, but I’d prefer to see an Indian momma with a papoose. Hopi has a “territorial imperative”—and may defend that territory (according to the return chart angle where it occurs) with reference to food, the mother, or children—or within any kind of care-taking relationship.

6. Isis\Nemesis: Where the source of some problems is a sibling, the source of others is: that things are fragmented, not really “put together” or scattered all over the place. It can thus be difficult to know what’s wrong or where the fault lies (or is it “lays”?) because there are problems “all over the place.” Put another way, “the fact that there are pieces (and not an integrated whole) is making it rough to understand exactly what’s wrong, who caused it, or why it’s happening.”

7. Isis\Lilith: This is great for sibling rivalry and for sibling relationships where “gender” is an issue, but it also means that there are situations where one has to “choose” 1 over another (and there are many others.) It’s as though decisions must be made when there are scattered (locations, ideas, evidence.) Thus: Lilith\Isis - Hades = Urania... when one favors or selects a single item, there will be mistakes in the overall sense—they have based the idea on one part and not seen the whole picture.

8. Uh—let’s end with something fun (...opps, that’s my Jupiter-Atropos again!) But, with the possible Nemesis x Lilith, you can blame jealousy, triangulation and gender stereotypes for durn near everything (and see folks for whom competition is always their undoing,) and with the Toro\Odysseus = Hekate\Venus, the “away” sports team is apt to the have the advantage for night games! :)

...as always, there are more-other delineations, but these oughta’ get ya’ thinkin’ (especially if they’re up in your L/R or in that of a Node-person in your life.) --martha wescott

Mars-Toro: 10-30-1999

On the lighter side, there’s a close conjunction of Mars and Toro in Capricorn now, and, this weekend is the Professional Bullriders Association’s National Championship.

If the Toro on your return isn’t that, watch some rough sport (football or prizefighting, for example,) do some hard physical work, and stay away from pastures if you’re wearing red. Oh, and if you get angry, avoid words that begin with “bull....”
