<< Technique: The Aries
AXIS >>

In dial work, much
attention goes to “The Aries Axis.” And
that simply means points at 00 degrees of any of the Cardinal signs, points at
15 degrees of any of the Fixed signs, and the two midpoints of that primary
axis: the quadratures, one in 22:30 of any of the
Cardinal
signs and 07:30 of any of the Mutable signs.
On this chart, those points are shown in red. (Radix Mercury and Hades should also be in red!)
Aside from acting like an
action-driven
Cardinal Grand Square, the Aries Point is kind of like an Ascendant in that it shows
your adaptation to the larger world; points in the Aries Axis indicate how you are “compared to the average person.”
The Aries Axis really
earns its reputation when solar arc directed factors approach (apply to)
it. Those factors are then involved in
signature events for the year.
This is the chart of
Charlton Heston (middle rim.) The inner
dial shows solar arc directions for the same date as the outer dial: August 9,
2002 when he announced that he had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease. Note solar arc Psyche (brain) in 14 Fixed
applying to the Aries Axis. Also note
that the Sun, Eros and Child, by solar arc, have reached the Aries Axis. You
see that the directed ASC has just separated from its year in the Aries
Axis. (Although not precisely correct,
you can figure that factors move about one degree per year.)
If you are interested in
a discussion and other Alzheimer examples (including the chart of Glen Campbell
who announced in late June that he’d been diagnosed with symptoms consistent
with Alzheimer’s, subscribe now to “Tools of the Trade” to be sure to receive
the September issue. Recent issues have
also focused on my cancer research.)
At the other quadrature,
in 07:30 Mutable, we find Niobe, Grieve and Eurydike, Rx. A quick interpretation of that would
be: there
is a humbling grief over dependency on another.
If you see the inner dial
(of this chart or YOUR chart) of directions as moving counterclockwise in time, you immediately want to know when
points in your chart attained the Aries Axis and the resulting high profile
that provides. To make this easy, refer
to the following table. It lists the
dial degree and the sign and mode degree (ie., 61/01 M means that it’s dial
degree 61 and it is a factor in 01 of any Mutable sign.) It also shows the approximate age you would
be when a factor in those degrees would have attained the Aries Axis—and the
ages of the twenty-two and a half year repeats.
For instance: let’s say
that your radix Sun is in 10 Scorpio.
On the dial, that’s degree 40.
You look on the table to find 40/10 F.
Then look across at the ages when your Sun would reach any part of The
Aries Axis. In this case you, find the
first age as during the 3rd and 4th year. The last step is to add the age to your
birth year. So, if you were born in
1972, you’d add 3-4 and know that in 1975-1976, your Sun was a high profile
case. (And then you’d look to see what
other radix points would have also been in the Aries Axis at that time because
they, along with transits in the Aries Axis during that time, would describe
strong events in those years. Let me
just mention that Saturn manages to be in the axis part of most years—so it
adds its influence to the radix and directed points sharing the axis.

directed factors apply to & occupy The Aries axis:

Of course, it’s also
valuable to see when midpoints apply to The Aries Axis, so you can take
midpoint degrees to the table above too.
And, next time, we’ll
talk about directing factors to other axes (and how to simplify that math.)
